Feature/timing updates

Multiple changes from my thesis branch are combined here. They contain:

• add timing for assembled matrix application
• minor timing related fixes
• use steady_clock instead of high_resolution_clock (see the note in https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/chrono/high_resolution_clock)
